Windhill again managed the great escape by beating the drop for the second season running and sending down last seasons 3rd placed team Bucaramaranga. After a season blighted by injurys and suspensions a full Windhill side finished off the season in style with an impressive 15-8 victory over there relegated rivals. This put Windhill on 18 points for the season and 7 clear of safety and only 1 point off the top half, this season has to be considered another sucess under the circumstances but next season will prove another tought task as another two strong teams will be promoted and Windhill will have it all to do to maintain there top flight status, but the lads are also aiming to bridge the gap between the top and bottom half as soon, of course, as safety is confirmed. Windhill kicked off the new season in tremendous fashion recording a 10-8 victory over Rawdon Soft, Jack Halliday was the star of the show with a man of the match performance and a hatrick to boot! 3-0 down after 10 minutes Windhill went into halftime 5-4 in the lead but then with 10 minutes left were 7-6 down but 4 quick fire goals won the match for Windhill in a solid never say die performance from the whole squad. The team will look at this first season in division one as a great success after achieving the goal of maintaining there status in the division and doing it in style finishing a huge thirteen points above the drop zone, but the toughest task is still ahead, two stronger teams have replaced the two relegated teams to make the league the strongest it has been so far, there will be no easy games next season so first and foremost the goal is to retain our top tier status. Everybody knows the second season is the hardest so the Windhill boys need to be at the top of there game from the off, starting with the home game with newcomers Rawdon Soft this thursday evening.
In the final game of the season Windhill ended up on the end of a 12-4 defeat to U.V.F.C, Windhill started well with early goals coming from Jack Halliday and Craig Hogan but heads dropped and the absence of Aaron Stoney and Rob Ward showed. The Windhill squad trained for 3 hours last night at Goals Soccer centre and talent was looking strong in the starting 8. Players names from the youth acedamy have been released to the tabloids as replacments for current players. Leading at the end of the first half made keeper Aaron Stoney want a peice of the action so Matthew Marshall took hold of the rains as sub keeper.
